Jáchymov
The originally mining town founded on silver deposits in 1516 grew into the biggest town of the kingdom. In 1533 there were 18 thousand inhabitants
Here, Count Šlik, the town founder, begins to mint silver coins called “thalers”, tolars, the predecessors of the current dollars.
The discovery of the radium isolation from the Jáchymov uranium ore by Marie and Pierre Curie was another incentive for the further town development. Today, Jáchymov is a spa town fully applying the mineral and radioactive springs in the treatment of locomotive organs.
